Girvan
I believe the most significant thing
manifested in these records is the clear occurance of
the given names which were used by the early McReynolds emmigrants
to Ulster. I have no doubt that the family Macrynnill,
in and about Girvan in Carrick is our rootstock. This family appears to have
come late to the region of Carrick, since I have found no reference to them
which predates 1489.
Macrindlestone
Long ago it was called Knockronald.
Since it is adjacent to the lands once owned by the McReynolds, it may have
something to do with our origin. For instance, in 1318, Ranald
Mac Alan Mhic Ruairi was
killed with Edward Bruce at the battle of Dundalk in
Ireland. The Bruce's came from Carrick. Ranald was of
the Clan Ruairidh, who were
supporters of Robert Bruce during the war of indepedence
with England. Knockronald may have been named for
this Ranald. The Clan Ruairidh
was once based on the isle of Bute, located about
thirty-five miles north of Knockronald.
